The white button up shirt is a classic piece that every woman should have hanging up in the closet. Whether it’s got a bit of detailing or is simple and sleek, it’s a necessity for her wardrobe.  On its own, a regular button up may seem boring or stuffy but there are a few ways to style it and make it your own.  Accessories, accessories, accessories.  Here are some great suggestions to help make the classic look your own.

urban-belt

A great belt works with any outfit.  Accentuating the waist, or sitting on the hips, a belt helps to give a lady a great shape.  (urbanoutfitters.com, $38)

oldnavytrench

Signature trench coats (like this one here from oldnavy.com, $49.50) are a girl’s best friend.  Play with bright colors and great prints, especially for the upcoming Spring season.

blazer

Jackets in general help to define a figure and pull together an outfit.  A great blazer does both as well as giving you another way to personalize your ensemble, as seen here with great texture and color.  Check out stores like Macy’s and Bloomy’s. And remember, if it’s not a perfect fit off the rack, make the tailor your new bff.

guess-jeans

Giving a nice long line to the body never hurts- try a nice, dark wash skinny jean with your white button to ad a subtle sex appeal to the look. (guess.com, $119.99)

ninewest-bootie

Another great way to ad length is with a fabulous shoe ::rawr:: (booties or stilettos, whatever your steez). Check out these babies out from ninewest.com ($49.99, I heart these).

broach

Jewelry isn’t just for the earring or wrist.  A great broach, as seen here, can help spice up a simple shirt, or jacket.  Browse online or check out what your favorite designers have in stores now (like Betsey Johnson).

ninewest-bag

Last, but certainly not least, a beautiful bag helps any outfit stand out. For great steals on expensive bags, check out Loehmann’s.  But I happen to love almost everything ninewest.com (39.99) does, including the bag pictured here.
