What’s YOUR Masque?…Jessica Gueco

16 Apr

Jessica Guero

This chick is fly. Im estatic to do our first Masque Spotlight on Jess. Talk about being everrryyy woman, this lady has accomplished so much while only in her mid 20′s.

I’d say the most glaringly obvious thing about her is her sense of fashion. While we all have our own, this chica epitomizes and masters street wear. Jess is heavily involved with the fashion industry and even used to work as a stylist while she was living out in the West Coast. Birds of a feather flock together, so of course she knows plenty of people on the come up in this GLAMMed UP industry. One of her connections definitely worth a look at is her friend’s clothing company HELLZ-BELLZ.

I felt a spotlight on Jess was absolutely neccessary to show the people a facet of the MASQUE community. Everyday woman, doing everyday things, and kicking ass at it. :)

Go HARD! but not too hard..

heart rate chart

You can reference this heart rate chart for your workouts!

Came across some exercise tips on the intensity of work outs. I go HARD. Too hard according to this. I try to keep my heart rate at about 170 because i noted on the treadmills in the gym that 145-150 and up is considered athletic conditioning for people around my age. (21-25 ish)

There are a number of ways to determine whether you’re working out at an intensity level that’s good for you.

You can check your heart rate. You can use the “talking test” (being able to converse while exercising). Or, even easier, you can assess your exercise intensity on a scale of 1 to 10.

When you use this method – known as the rate of perceived exertion, or RPE – you evaluate your activity level continuously throughout your workout, using a scale like this one:

  • 1-2: weak exertion
  • 3: moderate
  • 4-6: increasingly strong
  • 7-9: very strong, vigorous
  • 10: maximal; extremely strong

The RPE method can help ensure that you are exercising at a comfortable level. For most people, the recommended RPE range is between 3 and 5.

Tweet Treats

tweet treats
Bakery Twitters.

Wanna catch those fudge brownies fresh out the oven? Well soon enough you can be one of the first to know the best time to run to your nearest bakery.

we were really excited (and a little scared) to come across BakerTweet, a WiFi-enabled, Arduino-based prototype that one mounts on the wall of their bakery. Items are added or removed via web interface, which you can later select by simply spinning the dial. When the sweets come out of the oven, press the button to Tweet your eager customers and await the stampede.

Apparently its all the rave overseas and soon might take off here in the States! see the full article here

The Male Biological Clock

2 Apr

So there is a timer on the male reproductive system as well. Who knew?? it may not be as dire as a female’s but it IS there.

There are some proven differences between children of younger males and older males, subtle but still there.

The recent study out of Australia shows a number of disadvantages to those conceived by older men than younger.

  • The odds of concieving drop considerably if the man is over the age of 35
  • Children conceived by young men are actually smarter than those conceived by older men
  • The chance of schizophrenia increases in children who’s father is over the age of 30
  • A chance of bipolar disorder is at its highest when the father is over the age of 55

Just to list a few. Check out all the facts in the New York Times article here

We are well on our way, iRobot the sequel is here only this time the evil computers name is not VIKI, its CADIE (Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity)

For several years now a small research group has been working on some challenging problems in the areas of neural networking, natural language and autonomous problem-solving. Last fall this group achieved a significant breakthrough: a powerful new technique for solving reinforcement learning problems, resulting in the first functional global-scale neuro-evolutionary learning cluster.

say what?? yeah i had to read that over like 3 times. Check out the full story here..

Tip of the Day: Meals at Midnight

1 Apr

This is a big NOT to do. Haha I know easier said than done. Here are a few tips to help prevent the midnight snack attack

- Eat several small meals throughout the day; this way, you will not be ravenous in the evening.

- If your dinnertime routinely falls late in the evening, make lunch your main meal and dinner more of a light healthy “snack,” such as a small sandwich or a yogurt with fruit.

- Don’t eat and watch TV at the same time. If you’re feeling hungry, eat in a room that has no television in it.

- Don’t drink alcohol. It tends to increase appetite and diminish one’s resolve to eat sensibly. (It also packs its own calories!)
